Derivatives: Πριαπ- (Πριηπ-)ίσ-κος with -ισκωτός, -ίδιον, -ειος, -ήϊον, -ώδης, -ίζω with -ισμός, -ισταί (hell.).
Origin: Anat.
Etymology: As the god comes from northwest Asia Minor (cf. Πρίαπος town on the Propontis), the name is also no doubt Anatolian; lit. in Herter P.-W. 22, 1915. An IE etymology which must be rejected (by Osthoff Arch. f. Religionswiss. 7, 412ff.) is mentioned in Bq.
